Frequently Asked Questions What is the Catholic Student Forum?
The Catholic Student Forum is a gathering of students who come together to explore and share ideas about the Catholic student community once a year. This gathering creates opportunities for Catholic students in Higher Education to assemble in an atmosphere of mutual support and explore the joys and challenges of being a Catholic at university.
How did it come about?
The first CSF took place in February 2004, designed by the Catholic Youth Services (CYS) - an agency of the Bishops in England and Wales, together with The Conference of Catholic Chaplains in Higher Education (CCCHE) and a small group of students to meet the faith and networking needs of Catholic students studying in England and Wales. Since then there has been a forum in 2005, 2006 and 2007, each with more than 40 Catholic students travelling to the Jesuit youth centre, Southwell House, London from all over England and Wales.
What would I get out of it?
Good company, good food, great liturgies, thought provoking speakers, lively discussion and the possibility of new friendships!!! |
Who’s organising it?
The most important aspects of planning the CSF weekend originate from the feedback and ideas given by Catholic students in Higher Education. The administration and organisation for the event is run by representatives from CYS and CCHE. Through this three way partnership we aim to provide a lively and thought provoking forum which faithfully represents the issues most important to students in Higher Education.
Who’s going to be there?
Invites go out to over 100 chaplaincies to pass on to their Catholic student communities. However, with only 50 places available you need to get your booking forms back to us as soon as possible to be sure of a place on the weekend.
Why should I go?
As well as meeting loads of other Catholic students from all over England and Wales the weekend is developing a reputation as a great resource for students who want to explore their faith, develop contacts, network with other chaplaincies and create new friendships, all in a relaxed and supportive environment. Some of the students who join us have never visited London before and get a whistle-stop tour of some of the sights as well! The CSF continues to gain momentum in coming up with exciting ways to support students in their faith & connect them with each other.
What happens at the forum?
This year’s theme was “Simply Living” and was designed to explore the way our Catholic student community views and relates to Catholic social teaching and action. We looked at this through the lens of CAFOD’s current livesimply project and in relation to the MAKEPOVERTYHISTORY campaign. |
